MEET LAURA

My love for jewelry began as a young girl, always admiring the jewelry of others. I was lucky enough to have been gifted some special pieces at a young age. In my early twenties I found myself beginning to collect the jewelry of a few local Los Angeles jewelry designers. Over the years my curiosity about the jewelry process has grown. After studying graphic design at Cal State Long Beach I began a somewhat unconventional creative path. Aside from my interest in Jewelry I had an interest in floral design, plants and all things botanical. This led me to a twenty year career in the floral design industry. I was passionate about creating beautiful florals for weddings. After many years of sharing and enjoying what I loved about floral design I decided it was time to explore a new creative path.

It was a single jewelry class with an inspiring instructor that gave me the encouragement to begin this new adventure. I am lucky to be doing something that I not only truly enjoy, but am passionate about. That is what I’ve always thought life should be about. loving what you do.

My jewelry is less refined, textural, often times antiqued or oxidized to express my love for unique vintage pieces. I like to compare my jewelry to a perfect pair of worn in jeans. They can be dressed up or down, but they will always remain a wardrobe staple. Each piece is hand made in my home studio. Using recycled gold and sterling silver. I source my gemstones from ethically responsible sellers or use recycled stones. I believe everyone needs some staples pieces, as well as something more unique in their jewelry wardrobe. Is there such thing as too much jewelry?

In December of 2022 a retail store was born, Nineteen Hands Jewelry in Berkeley California. This wasn’t a long planned venture, but it felt like the next chapter to my story. I’m a firm believer in following your heart and gut. Do something you are truly passionate about and it will shine through.

My vision for the store is to support other women (mainly) makers by curating an inviting warm space to house beautiful handmade jewelry and unique gifts.
